Discover the Story of Lord Dattatreya’s Birth on Jayanti

Lord Dattatreya embodies the combined essence of the three principal deities: Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. He is the son of Mata Anusuya and Maharishi Atri. Once, Mata Saraswati, Mata Lakshmi, and Mata Parvati became proud of their marital virtues. In response, Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh sent Sage Narada to visit the three goddesses. Sage Narada spoke of the devotion of Maharishi Atri’s wife, Anusuya.

The three goddesses decided to test her. They sent Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh disguised as sages, asking for food, with the condition that they would only eat if she fed them while sitting in her lap. Mata Anusuya prayed and transformed the three into six-month-old infants. When a long time passed without their return, the three goddesses approached Mata Anusuya to seek forgiveness. Anusuya then restored the three deities to their original forms and blessed them, stating that their combined essence would manifest from her womb. This is how the incarnation of Dattatreya came to be.
