In Sanatan Dharma, Lord Dhanvantari is revered as the twelfth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, known as the celestial healer and the originator of Ayurveda. Worshipping Him on Dhanteras (the 13th day of Kartik month’s bright fortnight) brings health, abundance, and divine protection. His presence symbolizes the victory of life over disease and ignorance.
According to ancient scriptures, Lord Dhanvantari emerged during the Samudra Manthan (churning of the cosmic ocean), holding a pot of amrit — the nectar of immortality. Both devas and asuras sought this nectar to gain eternal life. The legend is detailed in the Vishnu Purana, Mahabharata, and Agni Purana. Another version narrates His manifestation in the royal lineage of Kashi as the son of King Dhanv, marking His second divine descent.
Chanting the Dhanvantari Mantra daily with faith purifies the body, mind, and soul. The vibrations of this sacred sound act as a divine medicine, restoring harmony and awakening the healing energy within.
