Puja
Chaitra Navratri starts on March 30th 2025, and on the first day, devotees worship Goddess Shailaputri. According to mythological stories, she is the daughter of the mountain king, Himalaya, and thus is called Shailaputri. This form of Maa Parvati is described when she was performing intense penance to win the favor of Lord Shiva. As a firm devotee, worshipping Maa Shailaputri instills determination and focus in life, helping in the accomplishment of all tasks. Her mantra is especially potent for bringing success in endeavors and fulfilling desires.
Before starting the worship, one should establish a sacred platform (chowki) and place an image or idol of Maa Shailaputri on it. Light a ghee lamp near the image and chant her mantra. The chanting of the divine mantras from Durga Saptashati is also beneficial. Offer sweet halwa and seasonal fruits as prasad.
