Yagyopavitam paramam pavitram, Prajapater yat sahajam purastat. Aayushyam agryam, Pratimunch shubhram, Yagyopavitam balamastu tejah.
Meaning: The sacred thread, known as Yagyopavit or Janeu, is supremely pure and divine. It grants longevity, wisdom, and divine brilliance to the wearer. Wearing it signifies spiritual discipline and purity.
Om Aapavitrah Pavitro Vaa Sarvaavasthangato’pi Vaa. Yah Smaret Pundarikaksham Sa Bahyabhyantarah Shuchih.
Meaning: Whether pure or impure, one who remembers Lord Vishnu, the lotus-eyed one, attains complete purity inside and out. This mantra is chanted before any sacred act, including Janeu Dharan.

Meaning: With the intent to purify myself and please the Supreme Lord, I now wear this sacred thread, symbolizing the destruction of my past sins and renewal of spiritual vows.

Meaning: I respectfully remove this old and worn-out sacred thread, born from the energy of Lord Brahma, filled with Sattva (divine purity). May I now prepare myself for the new one with reverence.

Meaning: This Janeu, made of three threads, represents the three Gunas — Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas — and symbolizes the path of truth, knowledge, and purity. By adorning it, I uplift my soul towards Brahman.

Meaning: This sacred Brahma Sutra (Janeu) is the symbol of knowledge and purity, bestowing constant spiritual merit and divine protection on the wearer.
Benefits: Wearing the Janeu enhances purity of mind and body, increases spiritual focus, and connects the individual with Vedic traditions. It is believed to remove negative karmas and bring divine grace.
Rules: The Janeu should always be worn across the left shoulder and under the right arm. It must be kept clean and changed regularly, especially during auspicious occasions or after impurity. One should avoid wearing it during unholy acts and must recite the Gayatri Mantra daily.
