In Vedic astrology, Ketu is considered a planet of spirituality. Although Ketu is classified as a malefic planet, it does not necessarily always yield inauspicious results. Ketu is associated with spirituality, renunciation, liberation, solitude, tantra-mantra, and devotion to God. Ketu does not own any zodiac sign, but according to some beliefs, it is exalted in Sagittarius and debilitated in Gemini. Ketu’s nakshatras are Ashwini, Magha, and Moola. These nakshatras are considered inauspicious, and a child born under these nakshatras may require remedial measures.
Ketu is known to create the Kalsarpa Dosha in a horoscope. If Ketu is conjoined with Jupiter, many scholars refer to it as Chandal Dosha, and if it is with Saturn, it is known as Shapith Dosha. Both these doshas can lead to various problems in a person’s life.
Ketu does not have its own zodiac sign; it adopts the characteristics of the sign and planet it is associated with. If Ketu is placed in the first house of a horoscope, it makes the person inclined towards solitude. Such a person prefers to stay away from material comforts and may have a skeptical or fearful nature.
Ketu always gives good results when placed in the third, fifth, sixth, ninth, and twelfth houses. Some scholars say that a conjunction with Jupiter creates Chandal Dosha, but in many cases, it is also considered a Rajyoga factor. Such a person can achieve significant progress in spiritual fields. If Ketu is with Mars, it enhances courage.
An afflicted Ketu brings various problems. The person faces obstacles and often encounters failures in their decisions. A weak Ketu can lead to problems within the maternal family.

Ketu was born after the churning of the ocean. When the demon Swarbhanu disguised himself among the gods and drank the nectar of immortality, Lord Vishnu used his Sudarshan Chakra to cut off Swarbhanu’s head. The head then became Ketu. Despite being part of a demon, Ketu is a spiritual planet. If Ketu is well-placed, a person can become a great spiritual teacher.
