What is the Damodarastakam?

The Damodarastakam is a sacred hymn consisting of eight verses, originating from the Padma Purana, dedicated to Lord Krishna, specifically in His form as Damodara.

What does 'namāmīśvaraṁ saccidānandarūpaṁ' mean?

This line translates to 'I bow down to the Lord, whose form is eternal existence, knowledge, and bliss,' referring to the divine nature of Krishna.

Who is Yashoda in the Damodarastakam?

Yashoda is Krishna's foster mother, depicted chasing Him in the verses after He mischievously broke a butter churn, illustrating her motherly affection.

What does the devotee ask for in the Damodarastakam?

The devotee seeks pure, loving devotion (prema-bhakti) to Lord Damodara rather than liberation (moksha), desiring to always remember Krishna's enchanting form.

What is the significance of Damodara being bound?

Krishna being bound by Yashoda's love highlights that even the Supreme Lord can be bound by the pure devotion and love of His devotees, a key theme.
