Story of the Varaha Avatar

Once, a demon named Hiranyaksha hid the Earth in the deep ocean. When the gods saw the Earth submerged in water, they prayed to Lord Vishnu for its rescue. Vishnu then manifested as Varaha from the nose of Lord Brahma. He assumed a gigantic form, lifted the Earth out of the water, and killed Hiranyaksha. It is said that after this, Lord Varaha also stabilized the Earth with his hooves and created the oceans.
